Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé is the main gateway to the Maldives. Multiple airlines operate connections from Australian capital cities, typically via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Dubai.

The Maldives has two distinct seasons. The dry season (November to April) delivers blue skies and calm seas, while the wet season (May to October) brings some rain but dramatically lower prices and excellent surf.
Once you land at Velana International Airport in Malé, you'll need a transfer to your resort. The method depends on which atoll your island is in.
Most common for resorts near Malé. 20–60 min ride. Arranged by resort, typically A$80–150 return.
The most scenic way to arrive. 20–45 min flight over turquoise atolls. Usually included by luxury resorts. A$300–600 return.
For remote southern atolls. 30–50 min on Maldivian Air Taxi or Manta Air, then a short speedboat. A$150–300 return.

Resorts have Wi-Fi but it can be slow. Buy a local Dhiraagu SIM at the airport for data. Telstra and Optus roaming works in Malé.
Resorts charge in USD. Use a Wise or Up Bank card for fee-free foreign transactions. Bring USD cash for guesthouse tips and local markets.
Bikinis are fine at resorts. On local islands (Malé, Maafushi etc.), cover up with a sarong. Pack a light scarf for mosque visits.
Use reef-safe mineral sunscreen only (zinc-based). Avobenzone and oxybenzone are banned in many resort areas to protect coral.
Maldives uses UK-style 3-pin plugs (Type G). Bring a universal adapter. Voltage is 230V — same as Australia, just a different socket type.
